Yomjima (17) – “I’m originally from Sudan but have been here in Lismore for nearly 10 years now. I’ve never been back but I’m planning to when I finish school. I still have family over there.”

“The thing I like about living here is it’s safe, friendly faces everywhere you go and not a lot of racist people here which is a good thing. I’m currently at Trinity High and when I finish I’m going to University to study Law.”

What would you consider to be the happiest day of your life?
“The happiest day of my life I guess was coming here, escaping all the war and stuff and coming to Australia.”

What about the saddest day?
“Losing my mum 7 years ago back in Africa. She was sick, she had TB. My dad is still in Sudan. I live here with my three older brothers, I’m the baby of the family.”
