Tarsem – “I grew up in a small town in India where we farmed and I came to Australia in 2007. I studied and lived in Sydney before coming to Lismore last year. We opened the carwash in Conway St. in February last year and in July we opened Brown Boyz, our Indian restaurant here in Magellan St.
We have been giving free meals from our restaurant for one month now. We noticed there were many people struggling. I posted on my Facebook page that if anybody needs food they can come and pick up here. At the beginning not many people knew us or my FB page so not many people took up the offer. I found the Lismore Community pages and posted on there.
Today is our 20th day of giving away 1,000 meals per day. The very first day we did 300 meals, 2nd day was 500 then we went to 1,000 per day. We care for our community here. At 6pm there are so many people waiting to pick up their food. We have people coming everyday who really need the food and obviously people come who don’t really need but want to taste the food. There is one guy who works for a local community welfare group and we give him 20 to 30 meals every day to feed people in need. Whatever we have left we put out the front the next day for people to take for lunch. Every night we have a different menu.
Lockdown finishes tonight so we go back to normal tradings but if we end up having to lockdown, we will give away our meals again.”
Before lockdown we were getting busy and people loved our food. We made money from people who came to our restaurant so now we want to give back to our community.”
