Kaz ” We are really lucky to have Taya with us. Taya actually was a singer with Swanee and has sung with the Beegees. We are very privileged to have her and she’s added that extra oomph to our choirs with all her knowledge. We love her! We also have the ‘signing choir’ which was formed 9 years ago and we won the Australia Day Group award two years ago which was one of our most happiest days. We have a lot of disabilities in it. We have Down Syndrome, Austism, Schizoprenia, right across the spectrum and it just brings so much joy to them. I love what it does to my heart. We go to ‘Me and My House’ once a month to the pre-school and we are teaching the children songs and sign because we believe that if we get people when they’re really little around people with disabilities that they will grow up accepting. I’ve worked in Disability for over 30 years and I’ve never known an organisation like RED Inc that has so much initiative and really looks at the arts. Not just painting and music but they do everything and it does so much for these guys. People that had no confidence have so much confidence now. It’s wonderful! We’ve only busked twice and we’ve made $100 so we might all go to Rocky Creek Dam for a picnic with that money. The guys are natural performers, they just love to perform.” “Amy says her favourite song is Adele’s ‘Someone like you’ and Peter said he only sings that song to Amy because he loves her.” Music is such a healing thing. When they won The Australia Day thing it was the most beautiful day because it’s a very sombre occasion but when our guys won it was Yeeaaahhh! Just for a window of time they were the stars and the world was right and I reckon I smiled for 6 months after that.”
