“I was born in Lismore, grew up here, went to Richmond River High and worked around the area. I married a girl who was friends with friends of mine and we have 2 kids. My parents still live in Lismore as did my Grandparents who passed away a couple of years ago. I’ve worked for NRMA for 13 years and prior to that I worked for Rex Airlines. I’ve worked in a few pubs as well.
A couple of years ago in February 2018 I went to the doctor because I found a lump in one of my testicles. I wasn’t too concerned because I thought it was just a cyst, only to find out that it was pretty well advanced cancer. Two weeks later I was on the operating table having it removed. Those few weeks were immensely stressful, just worrying, why didn’t I do it sooner? I had noticed it getting harder and I googled it. Apparently the chances of it being cancer were slim and I wasn’t really in the age bracket for Testicular Cancer but ….They don’t just take the lump, they took the whole thing. At the end of the operation the surgeon and I both had a ball. (laughs)
I’ve done Movember a few times just by growing a mo but this time I wanted to get more people engaged so I came up with the idea of 30 different moustaches in 30 days. So far I’ve done 3 of the Village People, Sam Elliot which was a fave with lots of people, Dennis Lillee, Merv Hughes, Hulk Hogan, Chopper Reid, the tiger king. There’s been 18 so far with the honey badger today. It’s still a fluid list and some I need to work out how to do the outfits. Most outfits I have found in the Op Shops and Lismore Embroidery and Apparel have made a couple of shirts for me. They kindly jumped on board as soon as I told them what I was doing.
I’ve raised $1500 so far. I set the goal at $2,000 but might push that a bit further now. I just want to say to fellas out there…Check your balls! Or get your partner to check. Just don’t get them to compare notes, cos you’ll probably lose both. I was surprised how many people have actually had it. I put it on FB when I found out and I got a few messages from guys with the same thing. If it’s caught early you have a 95% chance of a full recovery. I was just very lucky that it hadn’t spread. Where I had the surgery is still numb so my boss get’s much enjoyment from calling me numb nut. My wife works up the hospital so she’s gone to work when I get dressed. She only see’s who I’m dressed as when the photos go up. My kids are like… Dad’s getting dressed up again. Wait till they see me in my Borat mankini.”
Check out Nathans Page and give a little if you can. He’s doing a good thing.
