“I started in high school doing drawing, collage, music, acting and painting. I grew up in Griffith which is a long way away from here. I’ve been to 3 schools because we moved. I started drawing pretty young. I do very different stuff. I get ideas and go with a theme. It could be politics, what’s on the news, sometimes trees or nature, governments, just whatever I get ideas from. I do digital work as well. My favourite art is collage and second is painting. I had an exhibition in Kyogle at the Art Gallery. I’ve done a lot of practise to get where I am. I was one of the students who made all the Christmas cards for the teachers.
I’m part of a music group called Tralala Blip. We do electronic, 80’s. I’m the visual artist of the group. We just won an award for the Pub Talk video. We have played in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and we did a tour to Poland and Germany. That’s a long flight, 5 planes to get there. We played in a World war 2 bunker in Germany and other places. We are working on an album at the moment.

I’m involved in The Unusual Kaberet coming this weekend. I’ll be performing with the broken piano which is part of the youth assembly performance. There’s poetry. I write words. At the moment I am doing art on this shipping container which will be the massive Obscura camera this weekend.
I’m 30 now. I haven’t figured out what my future will be yet.”
Footnote from Sunita (RealArtWorks)
“ One of the key things Mat is a part of in The Unusual festival this weekend is, Mat has written a libretto or noise opera called the MessAge. The MessAge age is about the last man alive and what happens when computers and technology take over the world. It’s a very interesting process that Mat has where he sits down with Mike Smith who is another artist who’s blind. Mat spins Mike a story and Mike interprets it through braille. They work together to create the words. It’s a performance of fashion, light projections, electronic and experimental music and it’s really theatrical. It’ happening on Saturday night at 9pm. It’s at a secret location in the CBD. People can book a ticket, go to Lismore City Bowling Club where Twisted Comedy are performing beforehand. They will be taken by the Echo People and transported to the MessAge. So this is part of Mat’s thing. The Unusual is the first inaugural experimental live arts festival in Lismore and it’s all to do with inclusiveness and working with artists of varying ability. Lots of the events happening are free but there are some that are ticketed. You can get a festival pass that looks like a real passport. Also profits from the festival are going to RFS Lismore and Kyogle, Friends of the Koalas and WIRES”
