(L-R) Tom, Jimmy and Adam AKA The Linelockers
Jimmy – “ Im a Mechanic by trade, originally from Sydney and moved up here in 2000. I was in that trade for about 10 years, had my kids and wasn’t really earning enough money so I started truck driving. I got my truck license and have been a long distance truck driver for about 13 years.
The three of us are really good mates. We share the joy of music and the band has good chemistry because we hang out. I’ve known Adam for years. We played in another band together for a little while. Personal commitments prevented us from going on but we were enjoying what we were doing. Adam knew Tom who shared the love of old cars, Rockabilly music and Rockabilly lifestyles. Adam asked Tom to come over and have a jam. He just clicked. We have fun with it, have a good time and the love of this kind of music.”
Tom – “ Born and raised in Lismore myself! I’m a second generation roofer, car nut, love my old Mopars. I like old cars. I was brought up around them. I wasn’t so much into the music but I watched a band one day and I saw a double bass in it. I was only a kid and I thought I would love to learn to play that. I finally got one and learnt to play. I’ve been playing it now for 10 years and late last year I was hit up by these boys to have jam and we’ve taken off. Its good playing with your good mates.”
Adam – “ I moved up in the 80’s from Sydney. Started playing music, like ACDC cover bands and all that sort of stuff. I learnt to play a few different instruments and spent the 90’s playing in alternate Punk bands, gigging around the place, always playing music and working 9 – 5 jobs. I work for the Tobacconist in town now. I currently play in two to three bands consistently. I moved in here with Jimmy about a year and half ago. We just sit around and play guitars. These boys instantly connected because they had listened to a lot of the same music. Straight up we played 10 to 15 songs. I don’t have a history of Rockabilly music but I’m learning more and more and really enjoying it. The whole scene is a pretty cool scene. I feel pretty lucky that we can get out and do it. I’ve restored a lot of cars over the years, not as old as the old junkers these boys have.“
How did you come up with the band name, Linelockers?
Jimmy-“We brainstormed a number of names.”
Adam – “We were gonna go with Tinsel Tom and the Satin Jackets,” (all laugh).
Tom – “Don’t start!”
Jimmy – “One day I was driving the truck which is where I do a lot of song writing. Linelockers is a car term. The whole Rockabilly culture is centred around music, cars and greasy hair. We will be recording an EP soon, hopefully by the new year. We have a bunch of original songs that we want to get out there.“
