Lila (turning 8 this week)
Without including your family or friends, who is your favourite human and why?
Lila – “David Attenborough because he shows you everything about our planet and he’s trying to get everyone to care and get the planet healthy again. I saw a documentary where all these reefs were dying and nobody is caring. David Attenborough is trying to get everyone to understand how nice the ocean can be and what we can do to save it.”
How do you think humans can help save the ocean?
Lila – “Well you can stop using plastic. You know there’s bags you can get that are made from rotten corn and we need bags like that all around the world. I have a metal straw and we can use glass instead of plastic and stuff like that. You can make your own bag out of fabric. Some ladies already make Boomerang Bags that you can keep if you want to or you can share them.”
Are you worried about the animals in our future?
“ Yes I am! Like the turtles dying from choking on plastic bags in the ocean and sharks being killed because people are scared they are going to get eaten. They kill the sharks and that is their home not ours. Sharks can be nice too. I saw a documentary where this tiger shark had plastic all around it’s fin and it let the diver cut it off. It circled him and swam away.”
If you could rule the world……
Lila – “I don’t want to rule the world!”
Ok If you could have a little place in helping make a difference in the world, not as a ruler what would you do?
Lila – “I would get all the farmers to grow some corn and let it rot so we can can make bags. I would set all the animals free from zoos.”
If you set the animals free from zoos, they won’t know how to survive because they don’t know how to look after themselves.
Lila – ‘I would make sure they live in the right places for them. Every place in the world will have their own native animals back in safe places. Australia would keep all our animals like wombats and native birds.”
If you could change one thing, only one thing today in the world, what would you change?
Lila – “I want to change everything but the one thing I would change is saving the ocean and taking all the plastic away because I love everything that lives in the ocean. The whales, orcas, sharks, dolphins, turtles and the starfish.”
When you are older and finished school what do you think you might do?
“I would go to the place David Attenborough used to work and I would say I want a job. I would also be an artist.”
