LACEY GARRED

Lacey – “ I was seven when I first donated my hair. I must have seen something on TV about kids with cancer and my hair was so long. We did a fund raiser and we raised quite a bit of money. I haven’t seen too many kids with cancer other than on-line or tv but I know quite a few family friends who’ve had to deal with cancer and all the things they have to go through, one of those being hair loss. If there’s one thing I can do to help, it’s that I can donate my hair for wigs.
The second time I was in Year 5 so I was 11. My hair was longer than it is now so it was down to my butt and I cut half a metre off. I got my school to do a fundraiser so we had a crazy hair day and everyone donated a gold coin.
I’m 16 now and going into year 11 at Lismore High and I decided to donate my hair again. I’m not going to go as short but the minimum is 20cms so I’ll definitely donate at least that. This will happen on Jan 21, so less than 2 weeks.
Other than that I love to read and I love to cook for my family. My hair grows pretty fast so I reckon I’ll do it again in the future. I would like to see a wig made from my hair. That would be cool.”
