I put out a call for socks this morning. Yesterday we were short of them and there’s a lot of people walking around with soggy, wet feet especially in this area still.
Lifeline don’t give out second hand socks and that’s what we need right now so I had one friend set up a sock drive in Victoria. She’s gathered a heap of socks from down there which is fantastic.
A friend of mine died last year, Jon English, who was an Australian rock legend. His widow Coz Cameron called me and said she has drawers full of socks as that’s the one thing Jon used to buy constantly. She’s not known what to do with them so she’s sending them up here to us. I was crying on the phone to her as that’s just awesome and good quality mens socks are what we were short of the most. People will have Jon English’s socks on their feet. There are over 50 pairs coming to Lismore on Monday.
This is something he would do. He would have been the first one sitting on the railway steps here having a sing and doing what he could to help.”
