Kash, Fox (helping out) and Jahlie.

Jahli – “Kash and I are living in Rock Valley at the moment and we’re both Vegan so that inspired us to have a business that aligns with our values. The icecream thing came about because we personally wanted vegan icecream and there wasn’t that much vegan icecream around that was good. We started making it at home for ourselves and it kind of evolved into a business idea…Space Bars. We thought about using icecream machines but we didn’t really want to use machines and we found the liquid Nitrogen was a better way to go because it makes it creamy and it’s mobile. We don’t have to take freezers and use lots of electricity. We didn’t actually make ice cream till we got the liqiuid Nitrogen tank. We kind of did everthing else first and set up our business before we made ice-cream. It was a bit of a gamble.
Space Bars are 100% vegan. Our ice cream is gluten free, We use pretty much all organic ingredients and we source local ingredients and sustainable sources as well. We use Bonsoy as our milk and organic coconut cream as the cream base for the ice-cream. All our packaging is also compostable.
We still have other jobs at the moment. I was at uni studying Environmental Science. I’m also Duty Manager at the town pool and I’m lifeguard up at Goonelabah pool. Kash works at a cafe in Casino called Zeebras. We use their kitchen a lot to make ice-cream. The aim is to phase out working and concentrate on this business. At the moment you can find us at different festivals and at the Lennox Market.
Twenty percent of our profits go to Animal Welfare or Environmental groups. We try and mix it up and it’s been Sugarshine Farm Sanctuary for a while. We’ve supported Animal Rights and Rescue but we will extend our donation network. We think it’s really important to give back to the causes that are most in line with our ethics. It’s kind of the philosophy behind the business.”
