Greig – “Fundies started in 1978 with a group of people and was formed as a sort of co-op setup. In 1983 we moved up from Sydney and my parents bought the business as a new venture and a sea / tree change, to get out of Sydney. I’ve come into it in the last 20 years and it’s still family owned and I think that’s important in a local community, that a shop like this is still locally owned. Over that time we have expanded the stores to one in Byron and two in Brisbane and all still looked after by the family.
I think our customers appreciate that aspect, they feel Fundies has created a name for itself where the customers have felt ownership in the company and where they feel like a part of a big family.
Over my time here there’s been many changes happen with food, what organic was then to what it is now, the variety available now. It’s really grown and so many people are taking it on board, discovering new products that we source for them.
We have fantastic staff who love working here, they all have a very good rapport with our customers, first name basis which I think is really important and people can walk in and feel comfortable. It’s a happy, healthy environment.
There’s a lot of our customers here that were only children coming in with their parents and now they are adults themselves who are now bringing their children in. It’s really nice to see!”
