Frank, Deb, Moti and Michael

Moti – “Well I’ve been looking for some common sense and my friends here know that I have been looking for some common sense for a long time.”

Deb – “I remember one day I saw Moti in the street and he asked me if I had any cents and my partner gave me $20 to give him thinking he needed money but he said, ‘No I only need common sense.’ I said, that’s something I can’t help you with.”

Moti – “Everyone helps me in a way so I like to give back. I personally contribute $25 to Mother Theresa’s charity and I have done this for 4 years. I thought it would be even nicer to contribute to something with others so I suggested this to some friends. I asked Michael and we came up with the idea to donate to Save the Children’s Fund. This is how we started. We have our little group we have called ‘Helping Kids’ and we all put in $10 a month. It’s great to get the letter of appreciation so we can see where our contribution helps.”

Frank – “I’ve just started donating as I’ve known Moti for a long time from when he was writing poetry in the 90’s. He used to make little wire puzzles which he sold. He tried to give me one and I tried to give him some money for it and he said I will donate it to charity so I gave him a bit more. I know Moti and you can trust him. He’s selfless and he’s a good man.”

Deb – “ I met Moti in about 1992 at the Soup Kitchen. I was living in a caravan at the time and I couldn’t afford rent and food so I would eat at the Soup Kitchen at night with my son and Moti became a good friend. $30 a month doesn’t sound much but when you are a sole parent on a pension and you are just surviving it’s hard. When that week comes I may not have it. I know though that I can do $10 a month and with a group of us it works a lot better. Moti is always on a mission and it usually involves helping others.”

Michael – “I was volunteering at the gallery and Moti walked in one day. We have been friends since.”

Deb – “A lot of charities take so much out for admin that not much actually gets to those in need.”

Frank – “We did a bit of research to find a charity which actually helps those in need. Save the children Fund worked out one of the best. Basically over 75% goes to the children.”

Moti – “If people want to join us every bit can help and it makes you feel good.”
