Anne, John and Maggie

Anne – “This week we adopted a new dog and we have called her Maggie!
About 18 months ago we moved into Girrards Hill from a rural property and we’ve been renovating our home but we sadly missed our old dog, Suzie, she was 16 years old and a beautiful Golden Retriever and she didn’t quite make it. So we were looking for a new dog to be a part of our family and our lifestyle. We were actually inspired by our neighbour who had a rescue dog, Clover from the Northern Rivers Animal Service and by a stroke of luck, Vicki from the Northern Rivers Animal Services contacted me and said Richmond Valley Council had a lovely Labrador / Retriever in the pound that may be suitable for us.
So just over a week ago we managed to adopt her through an organisation called ‘COWI’ (Companion Animals Welfare Inc) at Brunswick Heads.. She’s been a delight, we didn’t know her name, we really didn’t know anything about her but she’s 5, she’s learning to come to her name and she’s a real smoochy pooch, loves cuddles.
This is the first time we have adopted a dog through an agency. In the past most of our dogs found us, but its such a good way to go because there’s a lot of support that these agencies can give you. Maggie was let roam before, hence she has a bit of the wanderlust in her so we take her for lots of walks so she’s tired when she comes home. She looks for us now and she’s very loving and we love her.”
