Ada Godden

“I was born June 17, 2005 in Cox Rd, Koonorigan. I was born at home. My Mum was standing at the kitchen sink and my Dad actually caught me. We’ve lived in three houses on Cox Rd, the house I was born in, the house my sister was born in and the house my Mum lives in now.

My sister B was born in 2007 and she was meant to be a water birth but she was born on the balcony because the bath wasn’t yet full enough. Our names were chosen by our father who is a Computer Programmer. They are both computer programming languages. My name comes from a computer programming language, Ada Lovelace who designed one of the first computers with Charles Babbage. B is just spelt B.

We moved into the house we live in now when I was three. It was originally owned by a couple who were farmers and it had been in their family for generations. Mum agisted cows and then we got two milking goats and donkeys. We loved the goats Daisy and Hazel. We ended up with four dogs at one time. That was quite chaotic.

I went to Coffee Camp Public School from Kindergarten to Year 6. My parents separated at the end of Primary School so I moved into town half time with Dad. Mum went into pigs around that time. Our home was always like a bit of a zoo which was fun. I went to high school at Trinity up until Year 10 and then did my final years at The Living School in Lismore. I wouldn’t have finished high school if I hadn’t changed schools I think.

I’ve always worked, even through school. I worked at a mushroom farm, picking and packing mushrooms and I also worked at a sprout farm behind Coffee Camp. My last year of high school I was working two jobs plus helping in the farm whilst doing my HSC, not because I needed to but I really like keeping myself busy.

I left school, worked at a Macadamia farm for a few months then took a Gap year and travelled Europe for six weeks with some friends. We went to Switzerland, Amsterdam, France and Lake Como in Italy. I want to go back so bad. When I finish Uni I’ll return. When I came back I got a job at Crema cafe at the Square.

I’ve done a lot of travelling as I have family in Victoria, New Zealand, England and America so I’ve had heaps of cool opportunities. We go to New Zealand every year where Mum’s sister lives and my Grandparents from England come and meet us there. I Love NZ. Mangawhai Heads on the North Island is where my Grandparents have a house. It’s a beautiful little stone, church style home in this gorgeous little village.

I went to America for Christmas at the end of high school. I had my first white Christmas. We went to Texas, Colorado, we stayed in Vail in the Rockies which was beautiful. We drove through to LA, saw the Grand Canyon while it was snowing which was incredible and Los Vegas.

I live with my dad pretty much full time now because I work part time in Lismore at The Living School but I visit Mum regularly. I turn 20 in three weeks so I’ll go to Brisbane with some friends to see some music.

I started Uni at the beginning of this year studying Information Technology and I want to major in Cyber Security which is exciting. I want to end up working for the Government or a big company. This career tickled my fancy because I can work on line and travel. I can take my job anywhere which is one of the things that excited me because I am not going to give up travelling. I want to see as much of the world as I can.”
